๐The U.S. wants to use AI in war
A new AI Task Force to lead the charge in AI innovation.
Happy Tuesday๐!
I know, I know you only have a minute for AI! So letโs get right into it.
ONE NEWS PIECE
๐ฐ๏ธThe U.S. wants to use AI in war
The Department of Defense created an AI Task Force to lead the charge in AI innovation.
The DOD wants to leverage the capability of LLMโs in warfighting, intelligence gathering, operational planning, business and administration.
Admittedly the aim is to stay ahead of adversaries like China and consider the extent to which other nations will employ this technology.
Perhaps the most controversial aspect of AI is itโs potential use in the battlefield and in autonomous weapons. With the DOD aiming to ramp up the rate of adoption within itโs departments, it seems inevitable that soon machines will decide over life and death.
BUT! Some experts advocate for the deployment of AI on the battlefield claiming that we humans have a terrible track record when it comes to making decisions under high pressure.
ONE IDEA
โI think it's obvious that the machine is gonna make a better decision than the human pilot.โ
โI think it should be required that aerial vehicles are automatedโฆcause the humans making that decision are god awful.
You can actually ask LLMs to resolve moral dilemmas. They will give you very nuanced moral, practical trade-off oriented answers.โ
