πŸ„ OpenAI launches GPT Store

The custom GPT App Store is gearing up for its grand opening

Hey SurfersπŸ„!

I'm feeling better after the worst of my cold, so I'm back to writing these newsletters, baby!

The AI scene is finally coming alive after its winter hiatus, with OpenAI dropping some exciting news:

THE NEWS

πŸ› οΈ OpenAI will open the GPT Store next week

The custom GPT App Store is gearing up for its grand opening next week.

Let's take a quick trip down memory lane. When GPTs first came out in November, they were super popular. But, ChatGPT got so much traffic that it had to stop taking new users for a bit.

In the early days, it was quite tricky to use these GPTs- sometimes it would take ages to respond and its response was often an error message.

And then came December with the CEO drama, and GPT Store got pushed to January. This kind of took the wind out of the sails for the initial excitement. But some people kept on tinkering with it and found good usecases. With the opening of the store we might experience a second spike in interest about these GPTs.

So what are GPTs anyway?

Well, calling them GPTs was a terrible decision. Think of them as custom chatbots that run inside ChatGPT. These bots can focus ChatGPT on a specific area or task. They save time because you don't have to repeat yourself every time you start a new chat. Plus they can even offer you a list of questions to help you get the answers you need faster.

Recent research found that there is a lot of juice left in GPT-4. Even if we never exceeded GPT-4 level performance (unlikely) there are a whole suite of recent findings that good prompting, connecting it to other tools, etc. greatly expands the AI's capabilities. GPTs are a way to motivate people to come up with great prompts or usecases.

The look of a custom GPT when opened

For example, if you're planning a wedding but don't know where to start with venues, music, or photographers, a custom GPT could ask you some great questions to figure out what you need and then search a document uploaded by the creator to find you the best options.

The cool part? You can make your own GPT without needing to know how to code. You just describe what you want it to do. It takes a bit of effort to get it just right and it has its limits, but it could be a great way to make some money.

We're still waiting to hear more about how the profits will be shared with OpenAI. It's also not clear yet if everyone or just ChatGPT Plus members can use these bots.

If you're a Plus member, now's a good time to try out some of the popular ones before they might cost money. Check these out:

There's a bunch more to discover, so have fun exploring!

Redditor u/_harsh_ found a way to use AI to create photo-realistic characters that can pass verification processes

Until now if you wanted to prove it was really you on the pictures, you had to send a selfie to the admins where you hold up a sign with your username or the name of the subreddit, or in some cases an ID. But apparently this method is not working anymore.

You can check the different photos the user created here. Incredible. I saved the workflow he shared on how to get consistent faces here, in case the reddit admins delete his post.
