5 new tools that will change industries, OpenAI working on how to train systems that are more intelligent than us

Hello SurfersπŸ„!

This week, just like every recent week in AI, has been packed with new announcements and developments. Today I’ve collected 5 new tools that came out this week, and that will have huge impacts on different industries.

Here’s the deal:

THE NEWS

πŸ› οΈ Mind-bending AI tools from this week

1. Camerai

Buckle up for real-time deepfakes! Recently, there's been a burst of tools generating images at lightning speed. Now it has been combined with a webcam interface and voila, it morphs you into anyone! Picture this: you're chatting, and boom, you're George Clooney or Jason Momoa. Although it's a bit slow and the background is wobbly, it's insanely cool.

Check it out here and see for yourself. Just a heads-up, it might be slow due to everyone jumping on the bandwagon.

2. GMTalker

Now, this tool will put a smile on your face, whether you like it or not. Chinese researchers came up with a new way to tweak facial expressions in videos. You can dial up or down a mood, flip a frown to a smile, or even make an AI generated face blink naturally. Dive into the details here.

Imagine crafting an entire movie with AI actors right from your couch, it’s going to be awesome.

But the line between real and fake videos is getting blurrier. From now on, we have to be skeptical about anything we see online. Next year’s US election will be a wild ride, for sure.

3. Meta’s Audiobox

Speaking of emotions. Meta's latest audio AI is like an emotion blender for voices. It can jazz up any audio with feelings whether it’s yours or AI generated, create sound effects from text, and even scrub out background noise. It's a creator's dream! Give it a whirl here.

In my experience, it's fun to play with, and I bet that in another six months, we could produce Hollywood-quality audio.

4. Google Deepmind SMERF

This one will shake up the real-estate industry. Deepmind SMERF lets you virtually stroll through apartments with insane detail – right on your phone! It’s like teleporting into a place without stepping out of your room. Throw on a VR headset, and apartment hunting becomes a couch adventure. No more trekking across town only to find the place looks nothing like its photos.

5. AnimatableDreamer

Last but not least, AnimatableDreamer is reshaping animation. It turns text into 3D animated objects, borrowing moves from regular videos. Ever wanted to see your cat play the role of a lion? Now's your chance.

Animation is about to enter a whole new realm of cool.

ONE MORE THING

OpenAI is working on how to supervise an AI that’s smarter than us

Whether we like it or not, we will soon interact with systems smarter than any human. OpenAI is exploring how less intelligent systems might effectively train their smarter counterparts without making it dumber. In their experiments, they are focusing on a GPT-2 system training GPT-4, and the results are promising.

Just like a sixth-grader can express what they want to a college student, we hope to make ourselves understood by a super-intelligent AI.

To get some help with the research they are also launching a $10 million grants program for graduate students, academics, and other researchers.
