AI to make 3 companies rise to $3 trillion valuation, AI expert is a hot new position

Hello Surfers๐Ÿ„!

During the weekend, I stumbled upon a two-hour uncut recording from Channel 4 on the morning of the 9/11 attack. It was mesmerizing to watch how slowly information spread 22 years ago. The reporters were clueless for the first 15 to 20 minutes, looking at the feed of the burning building, until eyewitnesses began calling the studio to tell them what had happened. Now, we are used to seeing world events, such as the invasion of Ukraine, live on Twitter. It made me wonder where we could be 20 years from now, with another revolution, bigger than the internet on the horizon.

Hereโ€™s your one minute of AI news:

ONE PIECE OF NEWS

๐Ÿค–Meta is training a ChatGPT rival

Meta is developing a new, more powerful AI system to rival OpenAIโ€™s ChatGPT. It aims to be several times stronger than Llama 2, released in July.

Meta, whose strategy is to attract researchers and companies to its own AI platforms by offering its AI technology for free, has been lagging behind in the AI race. Their recently released Llama 2 system was trained on 70 billion parameters, while GPT-4 is estimated to be roughly 20 times that size, at 1.5 trillion parameters.

The fact that Metaโ€™s new AI model is expected to arrive in early 2024, a year after GPT-4, highlights the tech giant's gap behind its rivals.

Even though OpenAI announced in April that it wasnโ€™t training a GPT-5 and โ€œwonโ€™t for some time,โ€ the AI race is on. Apple has reportedly been spending millions of dollars daily on its โ€œAjaxโ€ AI model, which it claims is more powerful than even GPT-4. Google and Microsoft have been dropping AI features into their productivity tools and Amazon is working on itโ€™s own AI powered Alexa.

BUT: With that said, Metaโ€™s model will still be the most advanced open-source AI out there. This will likely help foster new kind of AI businesses and use cases. Experts warn, though, that in the wrong hands, it could also become a powerful tool to generate and spread disinformation or facilitate other malicious actions.
