In April, an AI-generated song featuring the voice of Drake and the Weeknd briefly topped the charts before record labels made it disappear from the streaming platforms. Spotify also reportedly deleted tens of thousands of AI made tunes this month.

Not a good day for musicians. Ice Cube, in an episode of the Full Send podcast, expressed his belief that the technology is demonic.

"Somebody can't take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.” He also expressed what he would do if someon made music with his voice or in his style. “I’mma sue the motherf***er who made it and the people and the platform who play it.”

Many musicians, including Drake, have voiced their opposition to AI.

The exception. On the flip side, Grimes seems to embrace the technology and has recently introduced Elf.Tech, a software that allows users to create music using her voice and distinctive style. Artists can commercially release the resulting work, provided they share the master-recording royalties with the singer.

She even referred to a song created by an LA-based artist using her vocals as a masterpiece, and she expressed willingness to collaborate with the musician in the future.

But the major record labels are on Ice Cube's side and want to protect their artists from imitation. They have recently called on streaming services to clamp down on AI-generated music.
