πŸ„ GPT Store is open

OpenAI launches the GPT Store for all paying customers, AI can turn single images of animals into 3D renders

Hey SurfersπŸ„!

Last week they promised it, this week they delivered it. The GPT Store is open for all paying ChatGPT customers.

Here’s all the details:

THE NEWS

πŸ›οΈ The GPT Store is open

If you are a ChatGPT Plus, Teams or Enterprise user, you might have noticed a blue pop up button pointing at the Explore GPTs option on the left of the screen. That’s because the company opened its long-awaited GPT Store.

In the store, you'll find all kinds of GPTs. Whether you're into Writing, Productivity, Lifestyle, or even Image Generation with DALL-E, there's something for everyone. The hot and featured ones are right at the top, so you can't miss them.

Free Stuff Alert! Despite its name, The GPT Store is not selling any of these GPTs. If you're a subscriber, you get to use all these cool GPTs for free.

OpenAI is really going for engagement and growing its user base, rather than just trying to make a quick buck with upsells. The idea is to get these GPTs and their creators to keep bringing in fresh, cool stuff. This way, the platform stays lively and continues to pull in more people with all these new experiences.

How will people earn money with this?

OpenAI is set to roll out a GPT builder revenue program in the first quarter. The deal is that builders get paid depending on how much people are digging their GPTs. It's all about user engagement.

It's still up in the air how much cash this will mean for the builders, but one thing's for sure: it's a real motivator for them to come up with GPTs that really grab and keep our attention.

The word is, there are already 3 million custom GPTs out there, made by users just like us. And guess what? Some big-time companies have hopped on the bandwagon too.

Take Canva, the design website, and Alltrails.com, your go-to for hiking trails. They've both launched their own GPTs. But here's the catch – these GPTs are basically text versions of their websites. Kinda feels like we're time traveling back to the early web days, doesn't it? For these companies, it's pretty clear: they're using GPTs as a new way to find an audience and channel them to their sites.

What are the good GPTs?

Not all GPTs are useless, though. Take 'Consensus' for example. It's a real gem. You ask it something – like if creatine is the secret sauce for your muscles, or if chugging collagen is actually good for you – and bam! It digs into its database and throws back all the research papers you need, complete with citations and conclusions.

It's like having your personal research assistant for pretty much any topic you can think of. And just so you know, the answers to those questions? They're both a solid yes.

And then there's Girmoire, a nifty coding bot whipped up by a user named Nick Dobos. See, ChatGPT can be a bit finicky with long codes, often leaving gaps in the code for you to puzzle out. It's pretty clear that's OpenAI's way of cutting down on computing costs. But here comes Girmoire to the rescue!

It nudges ChatGPT to split the code into smaller, more manageable snippets. The result? Way better code generation.

I'm gonna keep exploring these GPTs and see what's what. If I stumble upon any cool ones, you'll be the first to know.

To be honest, I'm not sure if these will get a ton of new folks to sign up. But let’s hope GPT-5 is around the corner.
