π Google adds AI to Gmail, Docs and more
It's only $400 to Build an AI Disinformation Machine, Google tests watermarks for AI images
Hello Surfersπ!
If you work for a large corporation, chances are you will soon be able to play around with Google's new AI features. For the rest of us, it's an experience we'll have to wait for until 2024.
Hereβs your one minute of AI news:
ONE PIECE OF NEWS
πGoogle's AI-generated Search can lead to more paywalls
Okay, picture this: You're snuggled in bed, dreaming of a world where Zoom meetings don't exist. Meanwhile, your Google Duet AI is in a conference call pretending to be you. Yup, soon this could be your realityβif your employer is willing to cough up $30 a month per user for Google's new AI features.
The Internet Giant is dropping AI into Workspace, its universe of work apps like Gmail, Drive, and Docs, targeting large businesses.
The features range from:
Writing emails and checking grammar,
Creating briefs and reports with info pulled from files in your Drive,
Turning docs into fancy-looking slides,
Capturing notes and generating summaries of meetings in real time (meaning you can catch up if you were late),
An "attend for me" feature to join the meeting for you, "delivering your message," and recording the answers you can review later.
Many of the functions announced won't be any different from Microsoft's Copilot. With Duet, Google is directly challenging Microsoftβs core business as both companies race to revolutionise office jobs.
BUT! The real question to be seen is how reliable the underlying AI models are. When ChatGPT makes up a silly fact about ostriches, it's fine. But if Duet or Copilot gets creative with the sales numbers, that's a huge problem.
ONE IDEA
With AI, low-performing law students scored better on exams and less creative people wrote better stories.
What are your weaknesses you can enhance with AI?
