Arc Search cuts down on clicking, Apple is working on AI boosted Siri and Iphone

Hey Surfers๐Ÿ„!

January has been a relatively slow month for AI, with no huge breakthrough happening. While Big Tech companies have reported gains, they're also grappling with the high costs associated with AI.

However, don't be fooled by this; they're actively cooking up their next models and products. I expect the spring to be buzzing with AI news again.

Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s going on in AI:

THE NEWS

๐Ÿ” Arc Search is changing the browser game

Arc Search

On Sunday morning, before heading out to shop, I fired up the Arc Search app and typed in โ€œ30 g protein oatmealโ€ to figure out how to boost my breakfast's protein content. Normally, the routine would involve Google and clicking through several links. However, with Arc Search, a simple query and the "Browse for me" button did the trick and suggested the right ingredients to me.

Arc Search, from The Browser Company, is trying to shake up how we surf the web. Instead of the traditional search-and-click method, this app dives into six different sources and brings it all together on one page. You don't just get the ingredients and the how-to; you also find a bunch of related links, plus some extra topping ideas that are rich in protein.

This feature is really spotlighting what The Browser Company imagines the future of browsing to look like: everything you need from the internet in one neat package. Itโ€™s like they mashed up a browser, search engine, AI chatbot, and a website to create a super tool.

Sure, the "Browse for me" function isnโ€™t perfectโ€”it can get a bit repetitive with the info or mix things up in weird ways. But itโ€™s seriously cool when it effortlessly brings up the score of a football game without those annoying betting ads or hands you a raspberry cake recipe minus the bloggerโ€™s life story. Itโ€™s about getting what you came for, without the usual internet runaround.

BUT: There are still some big questions hanging in the air, like how Arc Search plans to work with publishers, how it'll handle citing sources, and what all of this might cost in the end.

Despite this, Arc Search is what you'd hope for in an AI-driven search tool. It offers a fresh, streamlined approach to finding your way around the web, making the whole process quicker and less tedious.

You can try it out on desktop or Iphone.

ONE MORE THING

Apple is working on an AI for Siri and iPhones

Apple's latest update, iOS 17.4, is full of clues that Siri and Messages will soon be getting smarter thanks to AI. Basically, Apple's been busy behind the scenes, playing around with ChatGPT to give Siri a boost, according to 9to5Mac. They're testing new features internally, like getting Siri to summarize stuff or react and take action based on an iMessage or SMS you just received.

Although they're currently using ChatGPT to test their models, don't expect OpenAI's software to be a permanent fixture. Apple's got its own AI models that will likely debut in iOS 18. One thing is for sure, Apple's gearing up to make your iPhone way more intelligent with AI.
