Alibaba's AI can now outfit anyone, AI got 100x cheaper in a year
Hello Surfersπ!
Today, let's dive into what shopping and TV will look like in the not-too-distant future. AI is shaking things up in a big way, and it's happening fast. It's almost like we should start keeping a diary of our everyday life now, because in a few years, we might look back and think, "Wow, did we really do things like that?"
Hereβs the deal:
THE NEWS
ποΈ Alibaba just changed shopping forever
Two weeks ago Alibaba has taken a giant leap in AI technology by introducing a new model that can bring a picture to life. They have now combined it with a different model that can outfit anyone with any dress.
You take a picture, and this AI can change your outfit in the photo with a click of a button. How crazy is that?
Whether you just want to change the shirt or give yourself a whole new look, it's got you covered, and it even considers your body type.
You can try the demo out on Hugging Face. But keep in mind, it's a bit limited at the moment for safety reasons. You can upload pictures of clothes, but the AI provides the models for it.
Think about the future of online shopping with this. Soon, we could be flipping through videos of ourselves, all decked out in different styles, against cool backdrops like a beach sunset or next to a fancy car. It's like starring in your own personal fashion commercial!
And, honestly, I'm all for it. I'm not the biggest fan of going shopping, and Alibaba's new AI could be a game changer in making it way more convenient and fun. I'm not sure brick and mortar shops will survive this.
ONE MORE THING
Running a GPT 3.5 class AI got 100x cheaper in a year
With Mixtral now offered for 0.5$/million tokens, running an AI is getting mindbogglingly cheap. You get 1.5 million words or a 3000 page book full of text for a dollar. Thatβs incredible.
Two orders of magnitude cost reduction in GPT-3.5 class model cost in a just a year.
That is far above Moore's Law pace, or almost any cost improvement rate for any production technology that I can think of.

Now, this is pretty wild! Itβs a demo of an upcoming news channel entirely hosted by AI-generated anchors. This might be the first glimpse into the future of TV.
I had it playing in the background for a bit, and honestly, I couldn't even tell it wasn't real.
